今回は上高地に隣接した活火山焼岳に新中の湯ルートから登ります。焼岳は溶岩流を流さず、水蒸気爆発をする成層火山で、頂上はいびつな溶岩ドーム群からなり、複数の噴気孔から活発に火山ガスの噴煙を上げています。独特のごつごつとした溶岩ドームはシュバルの理想郷建築のように妖しく優美です。

In this volume, the ascent is made to Mount Yakedake, an active volcano adjacent to Kamikōchi, via the Shin-Nakanoyu Route.
Yakedake is a stratovolcano characterized by phreatic (steam-driven) eruptions rather than lava flows. Its summit consists of a group of irregular lava domes, with multiple fumaroles emitting active volcanic gases.
The distinctive, rugged lava domes possess an eerie yet elegant beauty, reminiscent of Cheval’s Ideal Palace in their fantastical architectural form.
